Sheet Mask Shenanigans: Skin's Boni Yogurt Mask (FIRST IMPRESSIONS)

4:01 PM

Yes, yes, you read right! I'm here with a review of one of the trending yogurt masks, by Skin's Boni. I bought two after seeing them at a H-Mart, down south, so I could see how they performed for myself.

A couple of weeks ago, I shared on my Instagram about this trending "yogurt" mask, detailing my first impression thoughts, pictured next to Lotte's yogurt gummies--the same thing, but candy!! While I had seen a lot of buzz online about this mask--and similar yogurt-based masks, reminiscent of Yakult probiotic drinks (s/o to my childhood!!) but in a convenient mask form.

I hadn't had a chance to try it out for myself, until seeing them at H-Mart recently. #instantgratification

sheet mask #review feat. lotte yogurt gummies that almost look identical!!! . i was a happy gal when i spotted the coveted skin's boni yogurt sheet masks at the tigard hmart, on a recent road trip!!! i bought two, so here's some thoughts my dudes, couched in some first impressions~ . this mask's main selling point is that it contains lactobacilli (i'm guessing similar to cultures found in yogurt) & also green tea extract, ceramide & hyaluronic acid to help with skin texture & give moisture back into the skin!!!! . after washing my face and applying some kikus, i sat at my desk, chilling to some jams...for about a good 20 mins and let this mask do its magic. i also had my small desk fan pointed at me, for an extra cooling effect. after, my face felt softer, much cooler and my redness wasn't as prominent (as it has been lately....)!!! the beige watery serum had sunk into face without feeling sticky. . more thoughts will be in a blog post (going to try to translate things) but pretty much, i saw some minor but immediate differences in my skin! i recommend trying this brand's version out at least once, especially if you can find them individually AND for cheap!!!! . . . . .

skin's boni yogurt mask pack

I am proud to share that I can at least read the Hangul for the name of the mask, with much ease. I can kind of piece together a few bits in the directions and the ingredients, but it's only a couple of characters here and there, sans any comprehension. I'm trying, though!

With a neutral pH level of 5.5, Skin's Boni Yogurt Mask Pack contains lactic acid and lactobacilli as key ingredients, to aid with skin improvement, with extra goodies. The mask basically takes the benefits that Yakult, the yogurt-based drink from Japan, and allows you to give that your to your body, externally, in sheet mask form.

In unintended research for this, I discovered that:
  • Yakult Japan brought over its own drink to South Korea, and branded it as "Korean Yakult", spawning countless other brands to make their own versions with similar ingredients
  • Lotte has made gummy candy versions, but also a frozen ice cream? version of the same drink
  • Maeil also makes a probiotic drink like Yakult, likely a direct competitor
  • Yoplait Korea and Dannon Korea likely makes one that contains similar ingredients
  • There are many, many more similar drinks, and countless more tasty looking things!!!!! Like no kidding!!!!
  • A'pieu and ITIBITI are two other brand with very similar packs out at the moment.

Anyway, the back of the mask:

The mask is a thin, silky cotton, beige coloured mask, coated with a similarly beige, milky essence. I unfolded the mask and saw that didn't need much effort to unravel--it didn't tear at all.

The scent is a mix between sweet fruit tones with yogurt, much like a probiotic drink (Yakult, and other similar drinks). Containing lactobacilli, similar to active cultures found in yogurt and other dairy products, combined green tea extract, ceramide & hyaluronic acid collectively helps to improve skin texture while giving moisture back into the skin. Skin's Boni also boasts that this mask pack is it a neutral pH of 5.5.

In preparation for sheet-masking, I washed my face and applied a layer of Kikumasamune lotion (the regular version) and let the mask dit on my face for a solid 20 mins, while listening to music. Like a described on the 'gram, I had my small desk fan also pointed towards my face which gave an unexpected, extra cooling effect.

(I was about to burst out laughing before taking this pic) #sheetmaskselfie

The after:

Immediately afterwards, my face felt softer, much cooler to the touch, without being sticky or tacky. My complexion was also noticeably brighter. The best part: my redness wasn't as prominent either and I felt very relaxed before I was to go to work!

What gives this mask results on my skin is that it's low pH-- it's something I never considered about for masks. We all are conscious of the pH levels of cleansers or for water, but not always for sheet masks! The ingredients too yield immediate results.

Would I repurchase? Maybe. If I see them while down south on a road trip, or if i see them on sale, then and only then, yes. I suggest trying this once or twice and buying them individually, but don't necessarily buy a whole box unless you are sure that you'll like it.

Otherwise, I'd rather focus on diligently reviewing masks and using them, before the expiring dates! Of course, it is more or less a Good Idea to source green tea, ceramides and HA in other products in addition (and earlier in the routine), rather than relying on a higher priced sheet mask, for longer term use (duh!!!). My wallet would be in a detrimental condition if I were to regularly repurchase, but I would consider it only once I've depleted my current stash. #goals
